Children long to be known, understood, discipled, and loved.
The wise parent talks when the kids are ready to talk!
Honest, thorough, truly biblical communication is expensive.
Tedd Tripp, Shepherding a Child’s Heart
Thank you for blessing us with children. Let me never forget how lucky I am to be counted among those who have the privilege of parenting.
Please continually remind me what an honor it is to get to deeply know my child and to love them with all that I have. Give me the right perspective of remembering that I must live a life of quality communication in order to truly understand their innermost workings.
Give me patience to not jump to conclusions but also the stamina to stay quiet as I wait for the right timing for conversations that can and must occur.
Remind me that it is worth the price I must pay – in time, in money, in energy, in pride – to have quality, sound, fruitful, biblical communication with my children.
Continue to use my spouse to teach me to hold my tongue. Thank you for blessing me with a husband who has tempered me and helped me grow in my shortcomings, especially when it comes to how I speak with and to others.
Thank you for never giving up on me. Please give me the strength to never give up on them.
In Your name, Amen.
This is part of a 31 day series of shepherding a child’s heart in 5 minutes a day (click here for the series intro). I pray this series edifies you as much as reading Tripp’s book has encouraged and challenged my husband and I in how we raise our children.
